Vitamins

In response to the last comment, you can start vitamins whenever you want.  Call the office for recommendations on specific vitamins.  My kids do not take vitamins.  I find it hard enough to remember to get everything else ready for the day-even if we had vitamins at home I think that they would rarely get them.  If your child eats a regular healthy diet and drinks milk, they probably do not need vitamins.

If you are breast feeding your child-you should take prenatal vitamins and your baby should take poly-vi-sol with iron.

OTC Meds

The FDA is planning on coming out with a statement advising against the use of ALL over the counter meds for kids under the age of 6-including bendaryl-which I currently rec. I am all in favor of the rec, simply because these medications do not work for colds. How many of us having been standing in front of the cough/cold section at the pharmacy wondering: "what can I give and will it even work?"

Acetaminophen (tylenol) and ibuprofen (motrin/advil) are still fine.

A cold has to run its course-up to 7-10 days. I will continue to have benadryl on my site, but please follow the directions.

Remember, prolonged symptoms with fever or worsening cough, congestion warrant an appt.

Do not forget to view the youtube video(s) of Randy Pausch. Will be the best hours that you have spent in a long time-put down the People Magazine of Jenny McCarthy.

(FYI-two articles in the current New England Journal of Medicine-discussing vaccinations/thimersasol/autism-stating again that vaccines and thimerasol have no contributing effect in the etiology of Pervasive Developmental Disorder. And interestingly enough-the study in England in the late 1990's that had a link of the MMR to autism -in which one the researchers may have been paid by the lawyers representing autistic kids (no bias here, huh?) did not address the thimerasol issue at all-British vaccines have NEVER had thimerasol.)

Sleep good tonight.
