Chevelle, Smashing Pumpkins and 30 Seconds to Mars is on my shuffle. What about yours?
Starting watching the first year of "Weeds" on DVD and the continuation of the "Wire". "Weeds" is very funny, very politically incorrect, and certainly an adult comedy. The Wire is just amazing!
The Joshua Tree is great-one of those albums that will stay with me forever. Running to Stand Still must surely be about heroin use-amazing song, however my personal fav. is One Tree Hill.
I heard U2's New Years Day on the radio this morning. What a song!-does anyone write with that passion anymore? Maybe Arcade Fire-but old U2 is great. Such a distinctive sound the way Edge plays guitar. The album U2 War is awesome-you know has the picture of a boy-not to be confused with U2 Boy. "Bad" is my favorite song by them but I think that War is their best album.
Last week someone was nice enough to give me some new music to listen to (thanks Brian B.) and here is my take.
Bands:
Guster-solid, liked how it sounded-good thought provoking lyrics
Shins-I have heard them before-think Zach Braff's Garden State-after listening twice-it is ok
Cold War Kids-quirky-maybe too quirky-will give it a couple of more chance
Spoon-no way-this is not for me
Amy Winehouse-ok, but not the staying power of Norah Jones, Sarah Mc, Natalie Merchant, etc.
I guess I am more traditional 3 chords-simple lyrics (Green Day/Blink 182)
I downloaded an album from iTunes last night from this band. It was a 2004 release entitled "Funeral." Great disc. I have been hearing about them for a while-an obscure indie band that is probably very mainstream if I am downloading it.
Was nice to think that I knew all about new music. You know, growing up it was Zeppelin, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Journey, Rush, Boston, the Who, etc. In college it was my introduction to REM, U2, the Cure, the Smiths-then later to the Stone Roses, Charlatan UK, the Jesus Mary Chain-then into the 90's listening to Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Natalie Merchant. Late 90's finding Green Day, Blink 182, Son Volt, Wilco.
I would say over the past few years I have been out of the "new music" loop. It is hard to keep up with the Tulsa radio stations. Recently the Silversun Pickups, the Shins and Arcade Fire. I assume there are alot more great groups that I am missing out on. Let me know with any suggestions.
On a separate note-my wife is about 15 weeks pregnant. I cannot believe I am going to have another baby-neither can she-she had read the pregnancy test wrong twice thinking that "+" meant that you are not pregnant! Vacations we get you every time! I will keep you updated on her status.
Have a nice week.
Bright Eyes (Conor Oberst) was a band I had listed on my Pandora site for a while. He is playing at the Cain's tonight-of course when you are working/busy/responsibile-ie: not in college-it is hard to keep up with these concert dates. No tickets left for me. I missed Jeff Tweedy of Wilco a few months ago b/c of the same reasons.
Anyway Bright Eyes is an interesting band. Maybe alt-Country, maybe "Americana"-hard to categorize thissound. Check them out on Pandora and see what you think.
Check out this song by Finger Eleven-this is pretty cool.

Listening to some U2 lately. This really ages me but I love the song "Bad". It was on a 4 song disc called "Wide Awake in America". Check this song out. Before Bono become too political.
Thanks for the comment on My Chemical Romance-great group. My favorites when I am running are: Green Day and Blink 182.
Others??
