The Wire

I know that Dr Raley has written about the Wire which was show on HBO that we watched.  The show is great.  I recommend everyone take the time to watch it.  There are four season, each focusing a different group in the city of Baltimore and how they are affect by drugs, government and economic changes in their city.  Season 3 is intoxicating.  They focus on four kids in the Baltimore public schools.  I became so invested in what would happen to these kids.  I was really glad when they brought them back in season 4 to have their lives wrapped up.  Sometimes when watching the show you think this must be not really happen but it does and even in Tulsa.   I have not been following what has been going on in TPS and their one school but I read an editorial about it and thought to myself.  This could be on the Wire.  Their our so many lessons in this show and so many areas in highlights that we has a society need to work on making better.  As we watched a show about making the show one of the things that was highlighted about Season 3 was that they are hoping that by people watching the show they will have some answers on how to fix some of our Urban schools.  Season 4 has the kids from Season 3 and also focuses on Homelessness.  I found this season equally as interesting.  When I was in Junior League, I worked at the Homeless shelter in Tulsa.  It was eye opening and we felt like the programs we helped established would begin the process to make a difference in people's lives.  The Wire is smart, well written show, it shows how drugs has devastated a part of our society and it makes you wonder if we can really win some of those areas back.  It highlights a cycle and culture that hopefully unless we are in law enforcement or social work, we do not have to deal with on a daily basis but it is a cycle that is hurting America.  And we need to think about how it can be stopped.  I hope you take the time to watch Dr Raley and I both felt it brought a new preceptive to our thinking.

The Wire

Well, my last post on my favorite TV show-probably of all time.  So incredible.  Ended great.  Stayed true to its central theme-perfect.  Could not ask for more.

A video clip of  INXS-a band I used to listen to in college. I had a fraternity brother that did an amazing cover of this song.   I saw INXS at the Zoo in OKC in 1987-I know, alot of you reading this post were just in grade school in 1987.

Sunday Night

How I spent my Sunday night-holding the baby and watching the Wire.  Wire

The Wire

I am pumped-the new season of the Wire starts in Jan.  If you have not seen this show-it is amazing.  Could be the best series ever on television.  It is on HBO for its 5th and final season but you can rent the first seasons from Netflix, etc.  If you are into TV-this cannot be beat.  This will certainly not be my last post on the wire.  If you want to get a feel for the Wire, search the Wire and Omar (great character)  on youtube.  However in order to really get into the show-you need to watch from episode 1 season 1 to the present.  The show is like reading a book.

Kelli's (nurse who works on Tues/Thursday) last day is tomorrow.  She is having a baby in about 6 weeks.  She is a very good nurse and I have been lucky to have her work  with me.

Heard today that the Foo Fighters will be in OKC on Jan. and Linkin Park will be in Feb.  These are two bands that I like.    Dave Grohl for the Foo Fighters is incredible.  If you remember he was the drummer in Nirvana.  Should be good shows-hope  I will be able to go.

Dylan said today  "My sister bites me alot-she thinks that I am a chew toy!"

TV's

TV's are gone-sorry.  Thanks for your interest.

To answer the question about hand washing and MRSA-gels, soap and water should both be efffective.  However you need to scrub hard with gel-get some friction going.

Moving

In addition to the boxes-which must not be very popular-I have 3 TV's that need to go.  They are tube tv's-I think like 20, 24, and 32 inch.  Whoever wants them and if you can lift them, can come by and get them. First response back is the "winner?"

Scrubs

The return of probably my favorite comedy. Not just b/c it has a medical theme. It just makes me LOL (see I getting some text lingo down)-could use some more.

The characters are great-especially Dr.'s Cox and Kelso. This is the last season-I am looking forward to it.
I have found The Office to be very tedious so far. Sure feels like it has lost its edge.

American Idol

Am I the only one in America who has never seen this show?  I mean I know more about this from the toys my kids get from McDonalds.  I do not know what time it is on, what day of the week, etc.  My network viewing is limited to My Name is Earl, the Office, Scrubs, and Rescue Me.  The rest is Sunday night HBO and then Cox on Demand.

Let me know if there is anyone out there who has never seen an episode or watched more than a commerical for American Idol.

The Office

For those of you who watch "The Office" on NBC-last night was a classic.  I do not know if I have ever seen anything that funny (except for maybe the Wedding Crashers or the 40 Year Old Virgin)-a little surprised that was on network TV-but that was funny!

Random Television Bits

We are still very busy in the office-more flu and some strep today-when things start to slow down, I will try to get back to more relevant medical posts-but in the meantime just a typical blog entry. (essentially rambling w/out meaning)

I have started to watch the 2nd season of Rescue Me on DVD.  This is a great series.  Maybe not as good as The Wire-but not bad.  Also I am happy because in April the Sopranos and Entourage return.  The next few weeks are good b/c of the NCAA tournament, but it is hard for me to get excited since OU is not playing.  Has been a tough year to be an OU fan, especially after the Boise State disaster.

Enjoy your week-remember sun screen for your kids and also if you have a good sleep routine for your kids, you will really thank yourself since it is Daylight Savings Time-it is hard to get your kids to bed early when it is light outside.
